Hi, I’m Mira, and I’ve been tattooing for years: first in handpoke, and later, after professional courses, machine tattooing in many styles, ranging from minimal to hyperrealism. I’m also autistic, which means that when something interests me, I tend to fall deep into its history, mechanics, biology, symbolism, and whatever else is connected to it. I was born with a researcher’s mind, they say, so I use it as well as I can. Inkscript is where I put what I find on tattooing.

Inkscript manifesto:

Most tattoo content online is the same handful of claims copied between websites, unsourced, unverified, and written to fill space around ads. It’s an annoying mess that makes it hard to reach valuable information. I thought I could use my skills and notes to make something better, cleaner, more concrete — from general structure to the way each subject is presented. Inkscript prioritises high-quality information over SEO scores and clarity over clutter, thoroughly covering a wide range of aspects of tattooing. The kind of resource I would like to find as an apprentice and reach for as a working artist.

What you’ll find here:

$

Tattoo Symbols — articles covering individual tattoo symbols and motifs: animals, botanicals, maritime imagery, mythology and fantasy, sacred and spiritual symbols, subculture marks, objects, and patterns. Each article traces where the image comes from, what it has meant across cultures and periods, and what it carries into contemporary tattooing.

$

Tattoo Styles & Traditions — articles on how tattoos are made and how they look. Traditional, realism, graphic, contemporary, and culture-bound styles and traditions, each covered in terms of what defines it technically, where it developed, and how the work behaves on skin over time. This section also includes profiles of iconic tattoo artists.

$

Science & History — the biology, chemistry, psychology, and technology of tattooing, alongside the history of the craft across cultures and continents. How ink enters and stays in the skin, what the tools do and how they have changed, what the mind goes through before, during, and after the act, and how tattooing traditions developed independently across the world.

$

Tattoo Guides — bring together the practical knowledge behind both sides of the process: tattooing and getting tattooed. The articles here explain how tattoos are made, how tools, needles, ink, skin, placement, pain, healing, and aftercare affect the final result, and what clients should understand before choosing a design or sitting for an appointment.

$

Tattoo Albums — comprehensive, thematic art books that cover selected tattoo motifs in depth. Each album pairs original hand-drawn designs with the symbolism, history, legends, and cultural context of the subject. I believe that these albums are great workbooks that can be used not only as flash or inspiration but also as a good read and a professional tool for developing original ideas. Available as downloadable PDFs from this site and in print through Amazon.

$

Tattoo Design Packs — downloadable collections of hand-drawn designs organised by theme, usable as tattoo flash and a source of inspiration for artists and clients developing their own concepts.

$

Books — my published research on tattooing, written to deliver high-quality knowledge without smoothing it out or dumbing it down the way most popular science books do. Accessible language, full depth — useful whether you are a working professional, an enthusiast, or a complete beginner.

$

Library & References — a curated collection of books, films, websites, and other resources worth exploring for anyone who wants to go deeper into the subject.

New books and articles go up regularly. The most reliable way to see them as they appear is @inkscript.tattoo on Instagram. I also invite you to follow my Pinterest @Inkscript, where I keep a nice library of tattoo inspirations grouped by subject (it’s a picture catalogue useful when working with clients unsure of what they want or how they want it).
